French-English event hosting: how to plan a smooth bilingual programme

Bilingual hosting does not require every sentence to be repeated. It should help guests understand essential information while keeping the running order clear and purposeful.

01

Understand the audience’s actual needs

Specify which languages guests, speakers and crew understand. Practical instructions, important announcements and brand messages should remain accessible to the relevant audience.

02

Assign languages in the run of show

The programme can distinguish bilingual announcements, English introductions and French exchanges. Agree this plan with production rather than deciding it live on stage.

03

Prepare names and approved versions

Supply titles, biographies, sponsor names and pronunciation notes. Distinguish verbatim copy from adaptable sections. An unapproved translation should not replace sensitive messaging.

04

Separate hosting from interpreting

An event host presents and connects the programme. Simultaneous conference interpreting is a different service with its own setup. Scope that separately if speeches need full translation.
